In conjunction with our family’s annual trip to North Carolina’s Outer Banks each summer, we decided to create more of a road trip. Rather than just visit my family’s beach cottage in Duck, North Carolina, we added stops in Kinston, NC, Ocracoke, NC, and Raleigh, NC.
In a series here on the blog, and on our YouTube channel, I will share the highlights of our experience! You can expect information on lodging, dining, and family friendly experiences in each location.
After landing in Raleigh airport, Kinston was our first stop on this 11-day road trip. If you aren’t familiar with this small town in Eastern North Carolina, you are in for a treat. We first learned about Kinston from the PBS show, A Chef’s Life. The show featured chef, Vivian Howard who opened a farm to table restaurant in Kinston’s downtown. Having ties to the Carolinas, I also went to college in NC, we loved learning about the seasonal ingredients from farms across the region that went into her menus. Knowing, it was an easy stop between the Outer Banks and Raleigh, of course we had to visit!
