Do you miss visiting museums? How about really diving deep into learning hands-on about history, culture, science or experiencing amazing art? At least for us, there is definitely a feeling of lack in our lives as the world takes a break to stay safe.
After almost a year of most indoor institutions being shutdown due to COVID-19, it’s nostalgic for us to think back. Remember when we could pop in and out of spaces without much of a second thought? One of the ways we are bridging the gap as we wait for our city to open up is outdoor art!
Most recently, we visited Seattle’s Pier 62 to view “Artifacts from Utopia”. Scattered throughout the pier are lanterns of varied sizes featuring photographs honoring local communities and families. This work of art is thanks to artist collective, Psych-Pop (Devon Midori Hale and Chi Moscou-Jackson), and commissioned by local artist-in-residence, Takiyah Ward. Ward asked the important question, “How do we honor our elders, determine our self, and protect our youth?”, and I must say, the artists’ response is thought provoking, fascinating, and inspiring.
If you are in the Seattle area, I encourage you to come see for yourself. And while you’re at it, support some of the local businesses along the waterfront, and in nearby Pike Place Market!
