If you happen to have children that are young babies and toddlers, I just wanted to give some quick encouragement. Life and parenting does indeed get easier as they get older. Particularly, travel to our delight and relief has become simpler, more manageable, and a whole lot less stressful.
Camano Island, Washington with Kids: Travel and Adventure Guide
An annual community treasure hunt brought us on Camano Island last month leaving us with lasting family memories and a fond appreciation.
Appreciation for the space and time to remember what’s most important. Not how many miles hiked or places checked off a list, but the sharing of laughter, lessons in kindness, and opportunity to marvel at mother nature.
Appreciation for people. Each individual in our family matters, and I feel like we got to know each other better. With less distraction, I simply noticed more.

Do you know the saying “It takes a village to raise a child.”? To me this proverb means that many individuals contribute to our kids’ upbringing, and to do it well, often means we can’t do it alone. For our children to thrive, it’s not just mom or dad, or even both, but an entire community working to lead, care for, nurture, train, and teach.
This may sound strange, but in addition to aunts, uncles, grandparents, teachers, coaches, pastors, friends, and other role models, I believe that PETS play a big role in helping us raise healthy children. Our dog Norman, a Wheaten Terrier mutt who we rescued 9 years ago, is our daily reminder to get outside. Rain or shine, fresh air and exercise is extremely important to our family’s well being. Seeing him creep up the stairs in the morning to greet us, dance around even if we get close to his leash at the entry way, or give one last sigh as he waits for us rise from our chair sure has a way of motivating us!
Marching Forward with Gratitude: Our February Scare
I interrupt our usual travel tales and outdoor adventure inspiration to give you a quick glimpse into our personal lives. While I’m more inclined to share the good times, the happy memories of us exploring our beautiful world, they are not constant, and in reality, we all encounter bumps in the road.

Families Get Outside in January: Inspiration and Fresh Ideas to Explore the Outdoors this Month
Even when we have the best of intentions, getting quality time outside with our kids can be a challenge. I figure we all need a little inspiration, and some fresh ideas to carry on when the going gets tough, and you just feel like staying inside.
To help with motivation, each month I’m featuring a collection of families, and the unique activities that they engage in. Weather and circumstances may differ, but my hope is that you’ll gain a new spark of enthusiasm! You also might be able to brainstorm some ideas of your own to go explore the outdoors with your family.
This month, I reached out to families on instagram who were doing notable things, and asked them share where they live, the unique activity that gets them outside, what inspires them to get outdoors with their children, and a photo.
