There are places we travel to when after a few days or a week, we are ready to return home. Even if we’ve enjoyed ourselves, we’ve just simply had enough. On the other hand, there are places we travel to when after a week, we never want to leave!
On the last day we are plotting our next trip back. In fact, even in one case, we aren’t getting bent out of shape, when we miss our flight, and have to stay (and book a last minute hotel room) one more night!
That’s Hawaii for our family. It doesn’t really matter which island, though some of us have our favorites. Our state of mind relaxes once we are settled on the island. We get into an island routine where we actually want to wake up early, creativity flows, and we all just feel more content.
Lucky for us, our next Hawaiian adventure is quickly approaching. We’ll be heading back to Kauai in November. Our family tradition is to travel to one of the islands every other year in the fall.
I’ve also recently found a new way to bring a little bit of that Aloha state of mind into my bathroom here at home! Mālie Organics (“may-lee-ay”) is a Hawaiian luxury spa and beauty brand offering all-natural and organic products. Mālie offers products for the skin, hair, body, and home. I was generously provided products from the Botany Beauty skincare collection, which includes:
- Luxe Eye Cream
- Illuminating Moisturizer
- Cleansing Polish
- Illuminating Serum
- Kaua’i Clay Mask
- Hydrosol Facial Tonic
- Coffee Fruit Mask
To be completely honest, a skincare line-up such as this is a little overwhelming and intimidating. Prior to using Mālie Organics, I washed and moisturized my face in the evening, and applied a tinted moisturizer, plus under-eye concealer in the morning. Masks, polishes, and tonics were not a part of my regular routine.
I certainly don’t use each product everyday or even every week. However, I’m happy to say that I’ve learned to grab pockets of time for a more intentional skin care. Here are some examples of how I’ve incorporated Mālie Organics’s Botany Beauty line into my everyday (or every week!) life:
- Every evening, I cleanse my face, and follow-up with the Luxe Eye Cream and Illuminating Moisturizer. This isn’t all that different than what I was doing before. But, I believe the extra step of adding the eye cream is making a difference in the smoothness and (lack of) puffiness around my eyes. In addition, I love that along with the moisturizing benefits, the Illuminating Moisturizer is actually cleansing my pores! A little goes a long way with both products.
- About once a week, after washing my face, I apply the Coffee Fruit Mask. This is my absolute favorite product from Mālie Organics. Just like the eye cream and moisturizer, just a small amount is necessary to cover the face. The coffee fruit extract has inflammatory properties, and also works to minimize the effects of UV exposure. While I don’t get sunburned on my face anymore, due to vigilant sun safety steps, the mask feels great on my skin after a day of being outside in a sun.
- On particularly warm days, I love the refresh that the Hydrosol Facial Tonic provides. I especially utilized this product when we were in the hot and humid Outer Banks of NC this past August. I also look forward to using it when we are actually IN Kauai this November! The facial tonic can also be misted into hair helping to control frizz, and revitalize curls–much appreciated versatility!
- Admittedly I’m always a little hesitant to add oil right to my skin. Maybe it’s the flashbacks I get from the terrible acne I had as a teenager. However, I’m learning that the Illuminating Serum actually balances oil production, and leaves my skin with a healthy glow. Even though the serum is fragrance free, the various oils that make up the product provide a calming experience, great for the evening.
- I worried that the Cleansing Polish might be too harsh and abrasive, drying out my skin, and making it tight. Of course the opposite happened! This is such a simple step after washing my face, and before applying moisturizer and eye cream in the evening. The exfoliation, via cranberry seeds, hibiscus petals, and ground olive seeds, felt invigorating for my skin. Then as I rinsed the product off my face, I could feel the gentle extracts working to truly polish my skin!
- While there is an extra step involved with mixing the Kauai Clay Mask powder with water to form a paste, I love the extra cleansing and hydration the product provides for my skin. 3 minutes is all that’s needed: Quick, yet indulgent self care!
Notes and Suggestions:
- One of my most important skin care steps is to protect my skin from the sun. I’d love to see Mālie Organics create a moisturizer with SPF or mineral-based sunscreen.
- As you could probably gather, I’m pretty simple when it comes to my skin care routine. More suggestions and guidance would be helpful. Such as if/then situations, how often to use each product, and in what order.

Marcie, that is so neat to hear! I’m hoping to stop into the Poipu shop we were in on Kauai later this fall–I can’t wait!
