While we didn’t have to wait in very long lines on our recent trip to Disneyland, lines are inevitable at the parks. I’ll be sharing several line avoiding tips soon. Actually, Slaed will he serving up the advice since he now considers himself an expert on dodging lines at Disney!
In the meantime though, one thing that helped in all of our waiting at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure—Thinking Putty.
It’s not just for waiting for a ride. Thinking Putty came in handy while…
-Waiting in line to meet characters
-Waiting for a show to start
-Waiting for the parade to come through
-Waiting for a meal to be ready
-Waiting for the park to open
There’s a lot of waiting! Even if it’s just short bursts here and there, it gets tiring for our young children. Instead of handing the kids our phones, we just handed them their thinking putty. After a while, both Bergen and Georgia would just ask for it when they got antsy.
We first learned about thinking putty when Bergen received a big container of it for Christmas last year. It’s tons of fun to mold and shape, and holds up really well. It also comes in neat colors. Some have special fragrances, and others have features such as glitter and iridescence. And one final perk, it never dries out!
Then the small travel-sized (“mini”) containers (with festive themes) appeared in the kids’ stockings this past year! With this trip to Disneyland coming up, we picked up some fresh travel-sized containers in anticipation of all the line waiting. I was a little skeptical of Slaed’s idea. I thought the novelty would wear off quickly. Not so!
The putty was made into bracelets, magic wands, and mustaches. It also serves as a great conversation starter or ice breaker for the kids waiting around us. Once others were involved, the wait time felt even faster.
We purchased this round of thinking putty at Target, but of course, it’s also available on Amazon, and our local drug stores.
Any screen-free line waiting tips? Share them here, and let’s keep the conversation going! We also recently shared 5 screen-free airplane/road trip activities for young kids.
