Exploring Seattle’s Neighborhoods: Field Trip to Kerry Park Viewpoint

With this year of homeschool, I’ve noticed that some of the routines I had when the kids were much younger (and home more often) are back! One of those routines? Built-in Adventures.

Built-in Adventures are when we incorporate something fun and enjoyable, usually outdoors, into an errand (post office, grocery shopping, etc). We feel good about being productive, but also satisfy our fun, adventurous spirits.

Just as a few snow flurries were starting to fly late last week, I decided it was time for a car wash. Whether or not getting a car wash before a snowstorm was a good decision is debatable. However, my car did need a good wash. Plus, the coupon I had for a free wash was burning a hole in my pocket!

A car wash for my kids is an adventure in and of it self! As I thought it over though, I also realized that this outing could be even more than a fun urban hike in a nearby neighborhood. Some aspects of the kids homeschool studies/assignments could be incorporated in the adventure! Win-win-win.

Seattle’s Outdoor Art: Exploring Pier 62 and Artifacts from Utopia

Do you miss visiting museums? How about really diving deep into learning hands-on about history, culture, science or experiencing amazing art? At least for us, there is definitely a feeling of lack in our lives as the world takes a break to stay safe.

After almost a year of most indoor institutions being shutdown due to COVID-19, it’s nostalgic for us to think back. Remember when we could pop in and out of spaces without much of a second thought? One of the ways we are bridging the gap as we wait for our city to open up is outdoor art!

Sun Valley, Idaho Getaway | Family Activities in a Winter Wonderland

Soon after booking our trip to Sun Valley, Idaho, we realized we created a bit of a tradition for ourselves. Looking back at our travels, we were going on three years of heading to a winter wonderland destination in January.

Best Hikes for Kids in Seattle: Exploring Westcrest Park in White Center

Needing an adventure out of the house (and our immediate neighborhood), and not wanted to venture too far, my family, and I hopped in a car on a recent weekend to explore Westcrest Park in Southwest Seattle.

Westcrest Park is part of Seattle Parks and Recreation, but is quite close to the White Center neighborhood, located between West Seattle and Burien. We meandered around the trails, visited the large dog park, and the kids enjoyed themselves immensely on the playground.

Perry Creek Falls + Mount Forgotten Meadows | Longest Hike Yet! + Giveaway

Bergen and I ventured to Washington’s Mountain Loop Highway this week! In this western section of the Cascade Mountains (Snohomish County), we hiked to Perry Creek Falls and Mount Forgotten Meadows. I left it up to Bergen as to whether we called it a day at Perry Creek Falls.

Stopping at the falls would have made for a 6.4 mile round-trip hike. He was feeling ambitious though, and wanted to tackle the strenuous trek to Mount Forgotten Meadows. Possible snow at the top, and the idea of accomplishing his longest hike yet (10.6 miles) motivated him to continue climbing!

Bike Riding Gear for Families: Kulie Bike Bags

We have been riding our bikes this spring and summer more than ever before. We always have a big come back to cycling in the spring. In fact, it’s our favorite season to ride. However, with self-isolation orders, closed parks, and other restrictions in place this year, we relied heavily on getting out on our bikes. Even with restrictions lifting, and parks opening back up to visitors, we continued the habit of getting out on a long ride (that’s 20-30 miles for us) almost every weekend.

Our new riding routine also became a time of transition for us. Georgia, our 5-year old, grew out of the Yepp Maxi Child Seat, but was not yet ready to tackle the roads on her own. We also didn’t want to give up the longer distanced riding that we’d grown accustomed to! To buy us some time before she’s completely solo on the rode, she rides behind Slaed with a Burley Piccolo Trailercycle.

In addition to the Yepp Maxi Child Seat, we also had a Chariot Bike Trailer for when I needed haul Georgia around. The bike trailer also came in handy for when we needed to haul…STUFF: beach toys, sporting equipment, chairs, potluck dinners, etc. As much as we appreciated the extra space, we knew that if we were moving on from the child seat, it was time to move on from the trailer. Plus, our storage room was getting pretty full!

Right at that time, Preeti from Kulie Bags reached out to me. Knowing I was losing out on a lot of space without the bike trailer, adding a bike rack, and pannier was the logical solution!
