St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands with Kids: 7-day Itinerary + Photo Tour

It’s a lot of work to get two young children to St. John (U.S. Virgin Islands) from Seattle, but my husband and I can say with confidence that it’s well worth it! Because we have a 2-year old who isn’t so keen on sitting still, and hasn’t yet given in to the power of movies and games on the tablet, we broke the trip up.

First we flew from Seattle to Philadelphia, and stayed the night in a hotel near the airport.  The following morning, bright and early, we flew from Philadelphia to St. Thomas.  We then took a 45-minute taxi ride to the ferry dock.  And finally with much anticipation, we took a wild 20-minute ferry boat ride to Cruz Bay, St. John!

We opted to rent a car on St. John, so we also had the pleasure of walking with our 5+ pieces of luggage to the car rental spot along bumpy sidewalks.  When our car rental registration was complete, we were off on just a 5 minute drive to our rental house.

Spring Style for the Active Mom with Ibex Wool Clothing

As a mom of two, I’ve been learning about the benefits of wool for children for a couple of years now.  Merino wool is a particularly good choice for kids because it does not tend to have the uncomfortable itchy feeling that can come with other types of wool.  Specifically, we love the merino wool clothing from Chasing Windmills, and the cozy wool pants from Ella’s Wool.

Unfortunately for me though, other than wool socks, I hadn’t added much wool into my own outdoor gear.  When I was contacted by Ibex Outdoor Clothing to try out some pieces from their 2017 Spring Line, I was intrigued.

Lake Sammamish State Park with Kids and The Curious Kids Nature Guide

Lake Sammamish State Park, located in Issaquah, Washington has so much for families to enjoy.  We recently visited the park with a mission to check out their new playground, which opened last fall (October 2016).  The playground, designed for kids ages 2-12, mirrors the area’s nature features and historical attributes.  The kids and I were impressed to say the least!   Along with some of the usual playground offerings, we found a mushroom house, climbable salmon making their way into the lake, and a coal mine to explore.

Babytime! Sunny Sunscreen Video Review

Even more than coating ourselves with bug spray, on our recent trip to St. John, it was so important for us to slather on sunscreen from sun up to sun down.  The Caribbean sun is powerful, and our pale Seattle skin was definitely not used to the constant sunshine.  While on the island, we had the chance to try out the Babytime! Sunny Sunscreen. We were provided with a sample bottle in exchange for our honest thoughts and review.

Sustainability for Families: Easy Steps for a Greener Everyday Life

In honor of earth day this past weekend, I wanted to share some of the ways our family is reducing our carbon footprint.  It’s not easy, but a the same time, it’s also not that hard to make a few small changes that will grow and multiply into a lasting impact.

I’m no expert and certainly not perfect.  However, I recently read a new book called Sustainability Made Simple, and it’s caused a huge shift in my thinking.  It’s also opened my eyes to the consequences of many of our everyday choices.  According to the authors, Rosaly Byrd and Laurèn Demates, using and purchasing less along with supporting companies that are more environmentally responsible should be our most important focus.
